Our old pal Freiburger is probably the king of scheming and executing fun but masochistic road trips, but this time he may have outdone himself. He, Finnegan, and the rest of the henchmen at Hot Rod are currently thrashing on a Ford Ranchero to recreate the Ranchero Hot Rod raced in Baja back in 1967. The twist is that instead of Baja, Freiburger and Finnegan will be driving to Alaska and (hopefully) ice racing the thing on some frozen water. We hear that there’s lots of that in Alaska at this time of the year.
The boys got the car about a week ago and the plan call for them to finish it this week and get on the road this weekend. The danger factor in this one seems pretty high, considering that they will be driving a long ass time through some pretty remote parts of western Canada to reach the massive hunk of land once called Seward’s folly for the man who directed the US to buy Alaska. It turned out better then anyone could have expected for the obvious reasons of natural resources and defense purposes.
Back to the project at hand. Since they have had the car, the motor and drivetrain have been either yanked or prepped to be yanked. We’re not sure what the plans are for a motor and transmission, but it would be cool if an FE landed in that engine bay. A worked 351W would probably make more sense, but hell, none of this makes much sense anyway, so why not just let it all hang out!

I wonder if DF will drive through Alaska in flip flops….
Ron
Flip flops in Alaska… ummmmm. ok. ummmm. it is december, ya know….uh? car looks really cool no doubt..i dunno, DF and snow. I got a heavy winter coat he can borrow.
As long as DF stays on the West coast all the way up the weather should be fairly nice. Not real cold and not a lot of snow.
Are they taking the ferry out of Pr.Rupert?Faster and milder
I bet DF will be wearing the old puffy coat that makes him look like a giant Earl Schibe hotdog, WITH flip flops of course !
Want my attention: Drive that beater Skylark convertible to Alaska.
The locals told me DF showed up in northern Wisconsin to photograph the Merrill Ice Drags with no hat or gloves. It was 25 below. Bet he won’t make that mistake again.
