Just when you thought his case was dead and buried, Jeremy Mayfield seems to have landed a right hook square in NASCAR’s jaw. He filed court documents showing that he passed an independent drug test that was performed within 40 minutes of his latest NASCAR-mandated test, which NASCAR claims he failed. This whole thing is getting to be about as clear as mud.

This is huge news, and from the information in the court documents, it is clear that Mayfield went to a real clinic and had the sample processed by an actual, nationally recognized lab company. It came back with a negative result.

This thing is just getting ramped up. Now that this wrench has been chucked into the works we’ll have to wait and see how NASCAR responds.
