The guys over at DragRacingOnline.com are reporting that the upcoming California Hot Rod Reunion (which BangShift.com will be on site covering) will feature, for the first time, a dedicated eight-car nostalgia Nitro Funny Car class. In the past a Chigago Style eliminator was held and run mainly as an exhibition. These dudes are racing for cash and glory now.

Steve Gibbs, one of the NHRA guys who oversees the so-called Heritage Series, was spotted talking with several of the Funny Car teams at the legendary Nightfire Nationals in Boise, Idaho, a short time ago. Those conversations were apparently geared toward letting racers know about this change.

The good news if you are a fan is that the eliminator will draw a ton of cars who will try and qualify for the show and the action will be second to none.
