Back in 1988 Mortec.com launched quietly as a website where you could do a few different things but most importantly you could cross reference virtually any casting number on virtually any Chevy V8 ever made. Bought some junk from a yard and wanted to see if you had a 305 or a beefy 400? You went to Mortec.com. Need to know if that set of cylinder heads should be kept and sold of melted for scrap iron? You went to Mortec.com and checked the numbers. For more than a decade it was the spot to go an being in the internet business ourselves, we can’t imagine the volume of traffic that place got by guys like us just checking numbers. It had to have been huge. Then one day it was gone…poof! Hell, we thought it was gone forever and even stopped looking for it ourselves until a thread on the BangShift forum section about the site was revisited by a dude named RandyMortec signed in and basically said, “Hey…we’re alive!” In fact, the site has been active for two years now and it has all that great information that you missed while it was gone (or like us, thought it was gone).
Of course, things have gotten better since 1998. Now you don’t need to write down numbers, drive home and then check. Now you just whip out your smart phone, whack one of the links below and BOOM, you’ve got your answer. It seems like a weird thing to wax nostalgic about but we’re kind of glad that the place is back up and running. Like comfy old sneakers or a ratty old sweatshirt, it is a nice thing to have around. Maybe we were the only ones who didn’t know it was back. Did you?

cool stuff
ALL websites cost money to keep alive. Most ask for monetary donations to pay the expenses. Ask yourselves how much THEIR efforts and information is worth to YOU $$$
