SCTA Bonneville Speed Week 2018: More Pit Thrashing, Impound Area Photos, and More

SCTA Bonneville Speed Week 2018: More Pit Thrashing, Impound Area Photos, and More

(Photos by the author) – We’re going to keep your Bonneville interest piqued as long as we can this week with photos and stories in and around the event. One of the things you will notice is the sky being ashen gray. Believe it or not, this isn’t because of crummy weather but rather because of crummy fires that are burning all over Californa and sending all of their smoke eastward. It has helped to mitigate the normally searing temperatures on the Bonneville Salt Flats but it also gives you the sneaking idea that bad weather may be afoot. Thankfully it has not been.

This gallery features cars and trucks being thrashed on in the pits, being thrashed on in the impound area, and loads of the cool iron that define the competitive spirit here at one of the great legacy auto racing events in the world, SCTA Speed Week.

One of the cars that stopped us dead in our tracks today was the little Pontiac Grand Am shown below. We’re nearly certain that this thing was an NHRA pro stock car at one time and has been converted to LSR duty. It has an NHRA chassis tag on it and the thing has all the right parts and pieces to be hustled down a quarter mile. We’re going to get the back story today and report back to you!
