In this installment on the 1936 Ford project, Bello and the gang get their suspension on, but in a different way than you might expect. To recap, this is a traditional hot rod that was mostly stock underneath but has been getting some upgrades that don’t take away from the look and feel of this cool ride. The biggest change is that the original transmission was removed and replaced with a T-5 behind the Ford Flathead V8, which required a custom center section for the X portion of the frame, and will require an open driveline to replace the factory torque tube. This also made it necessary to split the wishbone in the rear which was also part of that new center section of the chassis. Out back, the stock rear will be used but converted to an open driveline. A front swaybar from a mid to late 40’s Ford was used up front and a new swaybar kit is being installed out back as well.
The rear is the focus of this episode and is pretty cool. It’s cool because the new C-Notch that Bello installed in the previous video allowed a new crossmember to be made and installed for the mounting of the rear leaf spring. That means this car has the stock leaf spring in it, just raised up into a new crossmember, in order to get the rear down for that custom look. It should still ride nice, will handle much better thanks to the sway bars, and be a joy to drive. Check out the parts design, installation, and the fun in the video below.
