An SRT-4 Powered MG Midget? Yeah, We’re About That! Check Out The Work Needed To Make This Happen!

An SRT-4 Powered MG Midget? Yeah, We’re About That! Check Out The Work Needed To Make This Happen!

I’m often curious about the true appeal of British roadsters. Yeah, they’re cute and all, but two-digit horsepower ratings on spindly little tires does not equate a fun time in my eyes. It’s right up there with a good romp in a potent golf cart…enjoy the open atmosphere and the nimbleness, and afterwards go find a real car to enjoy. (Cue: hate mail favoring small British roadsters, care of McTaggart.) The benefits of a small roadster like the MG Midget was that they were reasonably priced, simple, and economical, with the 1962 model able to knock out a respectable 33.5 MPG in 1962. If that is perfectly fine for you, go get your tweed cap, jacket and driving gloves and move on to the next story, because what’s coming next won’t work out for you.

This Midget isn’t going to suffer the penalty of low horsepower anymore. Instead, it’s being fitted with the four-cylinder turbocharged 2.4L that was fitted to a Chrysler PT Cruiser GT. This is the same mill that was found in early Neon SRT-4s and in a Midget, will be more than enough to be fun. But cramming a Mopar mill into an MG needs plenty of work and maybe a bit of Crisco just to be safe. Check out the work that’s going into making this little Brit something to behold:

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about doing this if I just had more T&M…any ’60’s British sports car, really.

Like it, mines the next size up MG (MGB), yeah I had to get rid of just about everything British under the body but everytime I drive it I find it was totally worth it. (500hp bbc, custom frame and suspension@2300lbs). This little car should be about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on!!!!

I watched a few of his videos, funny guy. That is going all in on this project! My brother had an MG Midget, too damn small for me!

I swore I was getting a tiny little sports car after getting rid of my V8 Ranger… (aka: free moving service for every family member, their neighbor, their neighbors friends gardeners friend…etc)

So I was going to build a Midget with a 5.0L. . That is until sitting in one in a wrecking yard, staring straight ahead at the windshield upper frame, seat all the back against the tiny wheelwell and imagining having to cut half the footbox away for the bellhousing and left head. I noted the frame rails were narrower than the bellhousing which would make a clutch change a huge job. Hmmm.
After deciding a Consul Capri still appears tiny yet suits my needs I abandoned the plan before seeing the yellow Bugeye Sprite (same chassis) with the 426 Hemi at Hot August Nights, And two guys bigger than me in it!
