Project Car Update: Killer Fabrication and Progress on the Pro Street, 1948 Chevy Fleetline

Project Car Update: Killer Fabrication and Progress on the Pro Street, 1948 Chevy Fleetline

BangShift member Pro Fleetline may not have been ultra creative with his forum handle, but boy is he talented when it comes to rod building. His project, a wicked 1948 Chevy Fleetline, jumped off of our electronic pages and slapped us in the face. This car is completely bad ass. The stance, the numerous, subtle body modifications and the snorting motor that will be living in the nose have us flabbergasted.

Not content to make something that just looks like it has stones, this car is packing a real heater of a small block under the hood. The 406ci Chevy has 11.2:1 compression, a really snotty Lunati Voodoo cam, killer Pro-Filer heads, and a host of other hard core parts. A Turbo 400 with a 4,200-rpm stall converter send the power towards a narrowed 9″ Ford rear end that is packing 4.56 gears. This thing is going to flat haul ass. The rear suspension is a four link using RideTech Shockwaves to cushion the blows of the road.

The massaged body on the car will wear tea green paint, the shade can be seen in some photos of the motor that is already doused in the stuff. The fit and finish that the car shows in the raw primer state is really breathtaking and the quality of this work, done in a home shop, rivals anything you’ll see turned out of a major league rod shop.

We’re going to be keeping our eyes peeled on this project. Few cars are going to look so good and run so hard. This ain’t no poseur rod, it’ll eat your muscle car alive.

Update (11/12/2010) : Since we first featured this amazing home build, George (the owner/builder) has done a fantastic job keeping us up to date in his project car thread. The interior is coming together, and by that we mean it is being hand fabricated by George and will be amazing. The bad ass, solid-roller 406ci motor is starting to come together, and the amount of little touches, great metal work, and sheer thoughtfulness has kept us glued to the screen.

Update (12/6/2010): Work continues at a steady pace on the crazy cool 1948 Pro Street Fleetline. George has mocked the engine in the car, continued on his body modifications and really started to hit the details that are the true signature of a project like this. This car will be the automotive equivalent of an awesome movie that each time you see it, another detail jumps out at you that was missed before. Also, George published the head flow numbers from Chad Speier Racing Heads and Manifolds, who took his Pro-Filers and worked his magic. Like we said, the only thing cooler about this car than the amazing fabrication work is the rip-snorting mill going into the front of it. Hit the updated link below to see the latest on the car!

Update (3/25/2011): After taking some of the winter off from the project, George dove back in recently and we felt it was necessary to catch everyone up on the progress. The bad ass 406ci small block is together and he continues on with the detail and finish work on the interior. It is pretty awesome to watch the totally custom parts of this car come together. From rough shaping to finish welding, George really is working to fufill his vision for this project. Hit the update link below to see where we left off back in March. This car may be moving under the power of that 406 by the end of the summer!
