Project Car Spotlight: Red Hot Racing’s LSR 1998 Camaro

When a bunch of BangShift.com forum members got together in 2008 and decided to transform one of their cars into a team LSR race machine, we watched with interest. This was a bold project with lofty goals. The story continues to unfold for the Red Hot Racing team and their 1998 Camaro which has been hauling ass at Maxton and will soon by scorching the Earth at Loring, Maine in late July.

This truly has been a team effort with half of the guys located in Michigan and the other half located in the Southeastern portion of the country. The engine is an LS piece, with a combo sourced from guru Kurt Urban. Out in front of that engine is a huge by large turbo that produces enough boost for the engine to make more than 1,000hp as the team claims.

The engine assembly and fab work for the turbo was completed by BangShift member STD (Dave) and Seth Kohler. Seth’s brother Luke is the guy whose Camaro was carved up and BangShift.com forum moderator Steve (White Monster on the board) has been involved in wrenching, planning, and many other aspects of the car.

Their triumphs and setbacks are all chronicled on a monster thread that starts when the car was just a wee little 1998 Camaro with some bolt-on mods. Follow the whole thing to see that LSR competition is not just as simple as keeping it straight and putting your foot to the wood. Everything the leads up to that moment is what separates the runners from the joy-riders. With the amount of work these guys have put in, they are runners and we’re happy to have them here at BangShift.com!
