Project Car Spotlight: The Tale of a BangShifter and the 25 Years He’s Had His Malibu

BangShift.com forum member Bamfster (Dan) is one of the true BangShift originals. He’s been around since the CarJunkieTV days, participated in the epic Red Ball Express run that saw David Freiburger’s 1969 Javelin land at our eastern offices, and he’s also owned and raced the same 1968 Chevy Malibu since high school. Sweetening the pot a lot is the fact that this thing runs 10’s on the mountain at Bandimere Speedway in Colorado and gets cruised on the street. Dan is one of the rare guys who actually kept the car that all of us were “never going to get rid of” in high school.

What makes this particular thread so great is the fact that Dan has photos from day one of ownership all the way up to today. There’s carnage, heartbreak, triumph, and engine porn, which really make up all elements of the car hobby for us.

The great majority of us gearheads have at least one car that left our company that we regret. Maybe it was a sale that we had to make for other reasons, an offer too good to refuse, a level of work needed that seemed (at the time) to be too much, or maybe just malaise towards the car. Whatever affliction we were all struck with, Dan wasn’t, with this Malibu anyway.

Hit the link below to see a car Dan bought in 1986 go from a mild cruiser to an ever more bad ass street/strip machine that is still evolving today. Can you say stacked nitrous plate systems?

Bad ass small block!
