Racing Junk Find: An Ultra Rare and Ultra Fast 1968 Plymouth GTX With Factory Hemi Power

Just yesterday we took our first ride of the year in our father in law’s Plymouth GTX. That particular car sports a 440 and an automatic, unlike this machine we found for sale on Racing Junk. One of just over 200 Hemi GTXs made in 1968 with a four speed transmission, this car was designed to haul the mail and it does. It has run down into the 12s at the strip and the seller claims that the Hemi, which looks stock externally, is cranking out more than 500hp.

This car really is a bit of an interesting piece because it is part bruiser and part nut and bolt resto. All the driveline parts carry the correct date code and other detail marks. The rear end is original to the car, The carbs have the right date codes and are correct dual qud Hemi pieces. The guy does not say whether this is the original engine, meaning the long block, but if all the numbers and codes match up, it may as well be, right?

Our attraction to the car is the brutish power, but a Mopar resto nut job would love it because it has been put back to “correct” condition, in virtually all aspects. The best of both worlds can be had for a cool $75,000.
