It’s go time, baby! Registration has opened for the first meet of the 2015 ECTA Ohio Mile Racing season which will happen May 2-3 at the Wilmington Air Park in Wilmington, Ohio. This event will have all the action of a normal LSR meet along with the added bonus of being the 2015 Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed Challenge which will pit some of the country’s hardest core street cars against one another for mile speed supremacy. Last year the battle came down to the literal end of the weekend with competitors hot lapping 200mph capable car round and round to lay down their best possible speed. It was one of the most dramatic and entertaining battles of the entire season.
Even if you’re not planning on racing a car, it is a heck of a meet to come and check out because of the incredible mechanical diversity that you’ll see. From the famed “SoAl Special” coming back to competition to cars like a twin turbo LS powered street legal Gremlin tickling 200mph, this is going to be a great weekend. If you have always wondered about this type of racing, now’s your chance to try it out. Got a drag car you want to wind up? The ECTA will be accepting NHRA certified chassis this year for big speeds so chuck a deep gear in that sucker and let it eat for a mile. You know you want to.
If you are hoping to race, there’s a limit of 150 entries and they are filling fast (registration opened the other day and we already have a couple dozen spots gone). If you really want to get into the action you can always show up and volunteer as well. It is a fun way to be right in the thick of things and to see the inner workings of how an LSR meet happen. From the starting line to the time slip trailer, it is an adventure.
If you just want to show up and check it out, the price to cruise the pits for the weekend it next to free and you’ll be blown away by the iron rolling around and screaming down the track. There’s nothing like LSR…NOTHING!
