A Rhode Island man who sold his hard wrenched 1939 Ford hot rod nearly a half century ago managed to find the car and buy it back. Hell, he’s probably thrashing on it as you read this! As a man with a young family who needed a house, Willy Ouimette was forced to sell his rodded and customized Ford. From the point of the sale forward, the car never left his thoughts.
Ouimette managed to amass a pretty good car collection over the years (he currently has 15 cars) but this one was always the figurative fish that got away. Sporting some radical modifications for the period it was built, the ’39 has a four-inch roof chop, has been sectioned nine-inches, and channeled six inches down over the frame. Sadly, there was not a photo of the whole car to go with the story. It has to look pretty wild with the stated modifications.
Ouimette found the car by placing an ad on the local CraigsList asking for the car. Amazingly, he located it less than 10 miles from where he currently lives. He managed to trade a Thunderbird he owned for the ’39 straight up and he has been working on it ever since. He plans to have it ready for the Spring cruising season. We’re going to look for it at the big local shows and get some photos. It sounds like a wild looking piece!
