Rumor Mill: FCA Has Green-Lighted A Wrangler Pickup. Don’t Rejoice Just Yet, But Get Ready…

Want a Jeep pickup truck? Have been thinking of nothing but a Jeep pickup truck since the Gladiator concept came out a few years ago? Well, we have some news. We will warn that there is still a grain of salt that needs to be taken, but according to Allpar (the Mopar-only corner of the internet), FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that a Wrangler-derived Jeep pickup has been confirmed, appearing by the end of 2017, which should coincide with the arrival of the redesigned JL Wrangler. The most likely candidate for production would be a two-door pickup based on the four-door chassis length, with a small possibility for an extended cab. That would keep the JL truck out of Ram sales territory. With little to no hints coming out of Toledo (no mules other than a couple of AEV Brute-kitted Jeep J8s) we can’t do much more than guess.

Currently, we are expecting solid axles front and rear, the Pentastar 3.6L V6, a potential diesel engine, possibly the VM-sourced unit from the J8 with upgrades for emissions controls or possibly the 3.0L EcoDiesel from Ram, and body-on-frame construction. What we don’t know is everything else: appearances, roof treatments, and so on. We keep hearing that the grille and windshield are going to get a rake for aerodynamic benefits, and that the Renegade taillight style will be adapted to the Wrangler. Here’s hoping that they get it right…Jeep isn’t something that FCA can afford to screw up with.

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Jeep are on the verge of marketing a pickup after decades and decades?

Land Rover had one available almost from day one back in 1948 – why has it taken so long?

Because Jeeps are only for posers or drug dealers and the Landie is for hard working people who need a car that will go anywhere in any weather and get the job done that’s why!

There’s a guy here who needs to get out more.

Won’t say how I know but there may be a folding soft-top Jeep in the works at FCA also.
