(Photos by the author) – It is an interesting year here at SCTA Bonneville Speed Week 2018. For starters all of the woe-stricken people who claimed that we’d never have good salt to race on again at this place were dead wrong. The racing surface is so good this year that records of 325mph and above have been falling like rain. Every racer to a man or woman talks about how smooth, hard, and tractive the courses are and that’s lead to many, many great runs. Weirdly though, despite a strong economy, positive salt reports before the event, and the normal amount of hype, the car count is down. The staging lanes grew ver quiet by early afternoon on Sunday a phenomenon we are not used to seeing until about Tuesday when many teams make the call to either hang it up or have run out of parts.
There is still excitement and drama galore here but we were expecting a bumper car count to go along with the rest of the factors we have seen in and around racing this year. Automotive competition is always a quality over quantity deal and these photos below will give you a taste of the amazing selection of vehicles we’ll be following for the next few days here in Bonneville!

Speed Demon just went faster than Danny by 1 MPH. The Demon car now has the top time of the meet so far. The car is in impound to back up the record run Tuesday (tomorrow) moring. Word is they’re going to kick up the boost for an even higher speed. The Demon car has had the top time a Bonneville for the last 7 years. It was the first car off the line and have made 7 runs so far. How come you guys haven’t posted any photos of Speed Demon? Maybe tomorrow?
