(Photos by the author) – A funny thing happens at SCTA Speed Week on Monday. The vast majority of the spectators have left, some of the racers who have blown their stuff up or achieved their goals hit the road, and the whole event begins to distill down to more and more hardcore people and equipment. From Monday through Friday there is loads of racing, loads of wrenching, and loads of triumph and heartbreak. Monday brought all of that to the fore. We told you about some of the massive speed runs made form the big streamliners but there were loads of records set this morning by cars in classes using less powerful engines and less aerodynamic bodies.
Big Red was back on the salt attempting to raise the record they set yesterday but had driveline issues that forced them off the course early. The fastest gasoline burning car in the world the Costella -Yacoucci – Waters Nebulous Theorem III ran nearly 390 mph on gas which is beyond incredible and opens up the discussion for a 400mph gasoline burning car, a feat that will boggle the mind because of gasoline’s inherent disadvantages as a fuel over things like alcohol and even nitromethane.
Enjoy these photos from Monday and we’ll be back with more later on!
