Show Photos: The Simpson Automotive Cruise – Fun Times At A Local Landmark

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Simpson Automotive is a full-service shop open Monday – Friday and they do everything from oil changes to engine builds.  The brothers run their modified dirt car out of this place, as well as, wrench on their own toys.  Given the quality of the stuff they run on the street I’d say they have a handle on how to do things right.

We were really impressed with the diversity of the cars that showed up to this event.  Few late models showed up, but it was enough to have vehicles represented from near-new back to the 1920s.  The crowd milled around full-on stockers to a street-legal, late-model dirt stock car (shown in previous article).  Genre’s represented include ProStreet, Trar, gasser-esque, survivor, mild custom, rat rod, street rod, and street machines.  Rarely do I get to attend a cruise anywhere near home with as many different kinds of builds.

Orange must a fall color for us because it really pops in these conditions.  I really enjoyed the ’33 Plymouth coupe complete with fenderwell headers and killer stance.  I do not know what it is I like so much about fenderwell headers on a fenderless rod, but it’s a combo that works very well together.  Sticking to my orange theme is Simpson family friend David Fultz’s ’48 chubby Chevy truck.  This guy is one of the voices for The Pulling Radio Network and wheels this thing out when he has time between gigs behind the microphone.  With an Offy intake riding aside the 292 inline 6, backed by a TH700R4 trans this thing will sing a sweet song for miles and look good doing it.  We’ll be scheduling a shoot with this one and bring it to you in the future.

Folks brought stuff to donate that was then auctioned to raise some fund and that effort was successful and greatly appreciated.  Plans are to make the cruise a yearly event.  If you want to see the fall colors on a beautiful drive off the beaten path then I suggest you keep your ear to the rail and listen for details to come out later this year.

Enjoy.
