Love them or hate them, you have to recognize 1970s custom paint jobs as some of the wildest and most unique in hot rodding history. Lace, panels, whatever you could dream up in a drug-induced haze could be applied by a painter, who, incidently, was also in a drug induced haze.
Like most paint and body trends, these amazing creations have mostly been sanded down, painted over and forgotten for good. It’s cool to see a car still surviving with its lace paint job, or a naked-chick-mural-wearing van, but it’s certainly rare these days.
We’re not totally sure if we’ll ever see a very strong resurgence of this style of paint, but we’d love to see more examples of guys running around wearing these colors today.
This week’s Site of the Week is a side road off of AbodyJoe.com that shows some of the zaniest and most creative examples of rocking ’70s style. We’ll leave it at that.
