We’re going to be talking about a bunch of cool new products from American Powertrain over the next few weeks. The company rolled out more than 10 new pieces that we touched, stared at, and needed to mop drool off of when we were finally kicked out of their boot at SEMA 2012. Gray Fredrick is the CEO of American Powertrain and a guy thoroughly obsessed with raising the bar with virtually every aspect of driveline performance, especially when it comes to stick shift transmissions. The company has moved into the clutch arena with a variety of options for customers ranging from multi-friction street clutches all the way up through racing style paddle pieces. The one that we’re pumped up about is the new dual disc option in the company’s Science Friction line.
There are applications for all of the “Big Three” transmissions and this clutch is rated to handle a ground pounding 1,095lb/ft of torque! Using their own design, the discs engage in a progressive manner so that some of the “switchy” nature of other dual clutch designs is eliminated. You know what we mean if you have driven a dual disc clutch equipped before. Subtle engagement can be a chore with those designs, but in typical fashion, American Powertrain has come up with a way to advance the technology.

American Powertrain is proud to introduce the Science Friction Atomic Twin dual disc clutch system for all Big3 V8 applications with up to 1095ft-lbs of rear wheel torque.
Unlike most race bred twin disc clutches, the Atomic Twin features progressive engagement, clamping the first disc a split second before the second, soaking up shock load that can damage transmissions and curing the “on-off switch” feel of other twins.
Easy to install, these race balanced clutch systems are pre-shimmed and guaranteed parallel with no need for tedious measuring. Stack-up height is similar to single disc clutches, making clutch actuation set-up a breeze.
Science Friction Atomic Twin clutches feature a low-flex formed cover with a stock pedal feel coupled to twin Organix or Ceramix discs with a cryo-hardened billet floater and coupled to your choice of a billet steel or billet aluminum flywheel. Race grade-8 pressure plate and flywheel bolts are included in every kit. Ford 10-spline x 1-1/16″ and GM 26 and 10-spline x 1-1/8″ discs are available now with Mopar 18 and 23-spline on the way.
Retail prices start at $1095 for the complete Science Friction Atomic Twin system, hundreds of dollars below other twin disc systems.
