This is some fantastic video here. Lyle Barnett, the multi-time NHRA pro mod winner has a great YouTube channel and he captured this car on the hub dyno at Modern Racing. The car is a SS/B 427 powered super stocker and as you will hear, it sounds like the angels themselves are singing when this thing makes it all the way to the redline. One thing to note, horsepower numbers are not shared. Why? No stock or super stock racer in their right mind wants to give those numbers out in public and give reason to any competitor to have them torn down, have the combo looked at, etc. This video is purely for the audio and visual awesomeness.
The car has a four speed in it and the make the pulls by shifting up to 4th and then rolling into it. You can hear the revs climb, the dyno brake gong to work, and then the engine roaring to its redline, which is way, way up there. This is not a baritone voice, this engine is singing soprano at the top of the tach!
This car is being run in memory of its former owner who has passed away. Friends of that man have gotten the car back into fighting shape and the culmination of that was going to Modern and sorting some stuff out on the dyno. These hub dynos are so awesome and it’s rare for us to see a super stocker on one. A fun video for sure.
