Wiring is one of those things that many hot rodders and racers dread doing on their projects for a variety of reasons. Besides being an intimidating task for some it is one of those projects that is also a lot more difficult if one doesn’t have the right tools. In today’s automotive world there are both soldered and crimped connectors, and also the ongoing debate over which is better. I’m a fan of modern crimp connectors, but there are times when soldering is required. This is especially true when working on circuit boards, custom relays, etc. Having a proper soldering station is something that makes these tasks much easier, but because wiring work on a car often requires doing tasks in multiple places around the car a mobile or portable solder station is something that really can add to the convenience factor.
When we saw that one of our favorite online creators, Adam Savage from Mythbusters, had put out a video on this cool mobile solder station we just knew that we needed to share it with all of you. Watch, learn, and modify this one to your liking. We think it is pretty darn awesome. What do you think?
OK, that’s cool. Always liked Myth Busters. But why does Adam now remind me of Alton Brown from the old show Good Eats? (Yeah?… Food Network. So??? GET OFF ME!!! I’M OLD!)
Kinda neat but….
* Use hot air gun for shrink tubing. Cheaper, works better, and won’t set your car on fire.
* He really needs to learn how to solder two wires together. Hopefully thats not the way he does in in a real project.
* The helping hands are nice!
