There are millions of awesome videos on the automotive end of the internet and we try to find cool ones to show you every day here at BangShift. This particular video is an honest gem of 1960s tech and advertising that we think you are going to love. As a sidebar the thing is highly educational as well. If you have ever wanted a legit, in-depth, and well illustrated explanation of how a manual transmission works, this is as good as it gets. Yes, it is more than 50 years old, but the principles contained in the video are the same as employed by today’s pieces. The fact that it uses one of the most iconic manual transmissions ever built as an example is even better.
The Eaton-Fuller Road Ranger transmission has been produced in the millions over the years. Modernized and updated as time has gone one, the Road Ranger is one of those gearhead products that was good when it debuted and has continued to get better. Offered in a bunch of configurations over the years, if one were to get into the guts of a unit made today, there would still be many similarities to what they see in this video made around the time of the Kennedy assassination judging by the cars showed in the opening scenes.
These were non-synchro boxes and at one point the narrator mentioned that synchronizing the shifts is up to the skill of the driver. Boy, we’re along way from those days, eh?
Tech, history, and an iconic unit that it is all based around. This is truly awesome.
