Building An Engine Run Stand From The Stuff You Have Laying Around The Shop Is Good Stuff

Building An Engine Run Stand From The Stuff You Have Laying Around The Shop Is Good Stuff

Engine run stands are cool, super handy, and way simpler to build than you might think. Plus, you probably have a bunch of stuff in your shop that can be used to help make one. In this video from Iron Trap Garage they raid the scrap pile and some shelves in the shop to make themselves a nice run stand that will help them test whether the engines they pick up are runners or not. But that’s not all they are good for.

If you’ve ever bought a used engine that you are pretty sure will run but don’t want to go through everything needed to put it in the car in order to find out, then having an engine run stand is awesome. If you have a fresh engine that you have just built and you want to run it through a heat cycle or two to make sure it’s happy and doesn’t leak, then having an engine run stand is great. If you want to fire something up, set it on the chip, and impress your friends at parties with some noise, then an engine run stand just might be the party favor you absolutely need at home!

Watch, and then start raiding your own scrap pile and shelves to see what kind of cool run stand you can come up with.

Video Description:

We have been needing an engine run stand for many years and we have a ton of engines that we need to get running. We have 4-5 engines at the warehouse that we need to sell, and we have a few projects with engines that need to be run in. Matt decided there isn’t much going on this week and it’s time to build one. We probably have the every thing in the shop to build one so why not build one for free!!

I built one of these years ago. Used it a few times since. It helps greatly to get the engine all running well, Then put it in the vehicle. I used an old pallet jack to build off of. Real strong to work with. And I did not use a Radiator. I just plumbed it up with a garden hose and a ball valve. And I used gauges and an old lawn tractor gas tank. To just gravity feed the fuel to the engine. And it really doesn’t take up any space. I keep an ” up next ” engine on it. Cool project.
