Engine Masters: Freiburger and Dulcich Test Cheap and Expensive Mufflers and Two Pipe Sizes On A Mild 350hp Small Block

This latest episode of Engine Masters is cool mostly for its real world nature. The guys are not beating on some monster big block or applying there wizardry to an engine using parts that only the King of Siam could afford. Nope, this is a very mile 350hp small block and the test centers around exhaust. Will a 2.5-inch system support the power level this engine is making? Will a 3-inch system free up more? Will mufflers that cost $100 a piece make more power than mufflers that cost $40 a piece? If so how much? These are the questions that normal guys and girls wonder about, think about in bed at night, and ultimately make their buying decisions on. For those reasons we’re into this episode.

There was no bigger calling card in our young hot rodding lives than having a 3-inch exhaust on your street machine. That was hero level stuff and to be able to brag on it was big stuff. Of course we had no idea if it was helping make power but damn it we cold say we had it so that was good enough, right?

Lastly, everyone works hard for their money and that means when it comes time to spend it you want it to go as far as possible. It also means that there are times when the thing you want can be replaced with the thing you can have right now. Maybe the “right now” thing is close in appearance but is it close in performance.

That’s the topic…watch and discuss!
