Is Cheap Engine Oil Just As Good As The Expensive Stuff? Does Your Diesel Actually Need The Good Stuff! Or Is Expensive Not Actually Better?

Is Cheap Engine Oil Just As Good As The Expensive Stuff? Does Your Diesel Actually Need The Good Stuff! Or Is Expensive Not Actually Better?

It seems like there are two kinds of vehicle owners. The first is the type that doesn’t much care what kind of oil goes in their engine as long as it is slippery. The second is the type that swears by one brand that they are loyal to. The reality is that oil today is better than oil was decades ago, and that’s because not only has the technology behind oil advanced, but also because the manufacturing of engine oil and lubricants in general has advanced. That means that engine oil is more consistent and better suited for a particular application.

In the case of oil for gasoline engines, there are a couple different types based on whether the engine is Direct Injected or not. In the case of oil for diesel engines, like those being test by Project Farm below, they have advanced dramatically over the last 20 years as diesel engines have gotten much more powerful and technologically advanced.

And don’t even get us started on the whole conventional vs synthetic conversation. That’s a whole other technology discussion and, in general, synthetic is considered superior.

But does the cheap stuff compare to the expensive stuff? Watch and find out.

Video Description:

Mobil Delvac, Rotella T6, Royal Purple, Schaeffer’s, Hot Shot’s and Amsoil. I paid an independent oil testing lab to analyze all of the motor oils, and I performed my own testing for lubricity, resistance to thermal break down, and oil flow characteristics.

I bought all of the motor oils, paid for the oil analysis, and all of the supplies used in this review. I always pay for everything out of my own pocket to ensure an unbiased review. So, THANK YOU for supporting the channel.
