Purge Welding Stainless Tubing Doesn’t Have To Be Nearly As Difficult As You Might Think. Watch This.

Purge Welding Stainless Tubing Doesn’t Have To Be Nearly As Difficult As You Might Think. Watch This.

If you are building headers or exhaust or something from stainless tubing you might wonder if you need to purge, or back gas, the tubing so that the welds are stronger and prettier? What we mean by this is to fill the tubing with welding gas so as to remove the regular air and oxygen from inside the tubing. This is not a requirement when welding tubing that slips inside another tube as the entire weld will basically be on the outside. But if you are but welding tubing ends to each other the weld will form on the inside of the tube as well as the outside and it will be ugly and crystallized and impure on the inside if you don’t purge the tubing. Now there are some pretty elaborate systems for doing this, but the truth is you just need to get gas in and keep it in. In this video you’ll see that the tube bringing the gas to the party is the fanciest thing you need. The rest can simply be done with tape. Yeah, it can be that simple.

As usual, there is a bit more to it though and in this video Tim McAmis shows just how to do it and do it right. With these tips and tricks you will see that you can weld up some pretty nice stuff. Check it out.
