I love all the cool old iron that the guys at Iron Trap Garage are always finding, because most of their stuff is at least 20 years older than the muscle car stuff I mess around with most often. What is great is to see them get some of these old parts and pieces back up and running with little more work than it would take to do the same thing to a 350 in a 1975 Cutlass. So when I saw this video come up of them messing with a 331 Caddy out of a 1949 model, it was interesting. So they did what any good car guy would do and strapped this thing to the workbench to see if they could fire it up! Watch.
Video Description:
We recently purchased this 331 Cadillac engine on our last trip to New York, hoping it will be a good engine. The estate also had a 49 Cadillac, so we assume this was his “extra” engine incase there were issues. Unfortunately the engine did not have a carb on it and we do not have one in our stash, but Matt has a spare 3×2 Caddy intake that will work temporarily. The plan is to install the 3×2 and run it off the center carb, and then eventually get a 4 barrel to run on the stock manifold. Let’s see if we can make this thing run!!
