Which One Is Gooder?! 6.0L LY6 vs 6.2L LS3-LOW BUCK LS vs MO BUCK! (THEN BOOST)

Which One Is Gooder?! 6.0L LY6 vs 6.2L LS3-LOW BUCK LS vs MO BUCK! (THEN BOOST)

6 liter, 6 liter, 6 liter, if I’ve heard it once I’ve heard it a thousand times that there is nothing finer for junkyard boost than a 6.0 LS. On the other side is every Camaro or Corvette guy who swears that there is nothing finer than a 6.2L LS3. But is one really superior to the other in every way? Does one perform better NA and one better under boost? Cause boost makes everything better right? If you answered no to the last question, we can’t be friends anymore.

Since we’re huge fans of low buck around here, but know that higher dollar parts have their place as well, we want to see this back to back test with a 6.0 and LS3 going head to head with the exact same camshafts. And does the LS3 make enough extra power to make it worth the money? Does it make more power at all? And does boost equalize it all out to where there is hardly any difference? These questions and more will be answered in this latest video from our dyno dude Richard Holdener.

Here’s the description from his video:

IS THE BIGGER, EXPENSIVE, ALUMINUM 6.2L REALLY BETTER? HOW MUCH LESS POWER DOES THE 6.0L LY6 MAKE COMPARED TO A LARGER 6.2L LS3? WHAT IF WE RUN THEM WITH THE SAME STOCK LS3 CAMS? WHAT IF WE RUN THEM WITH THE SAME AFTER MARKET COMP CAMS? IS THE BIGGER MOTOR ALWAYS BETTER? IF SO, IS IT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ADD BOOST TO THE EQUATION? IT’S ALL HERE!

Power difference between the two is as expected. Obviously another advantage of the LS3 is the weight savings on the nose of the car. All of this kinda irrelevant as you can’t find an LS3 in a wrecking yard as Richard points out.
