The Thrash Is On To Complete This Steel, 1967, Big Block, Four Speed Barracuda For Drag Week!

The Thrash Is On To Complete This Steel, 1967, Big Block, Four Speed Barracuda For Drag Week!

Arizona’s Robert Reynolds was one of the many people who answered the call we put out for Drag Week project builds the other day and like Gary Putnam’s car we featured yesterday, Reynolds is putting the last thrash on a multi-year home build and this car is flipping awesome. All steel aside from the hood and bumpers, the silver Mopar is a real looker. Beyond the looks there’s a seriously beefed, Indy headed big block that will be backed by a face-plated A-833 four speed and the car will be running the Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated class. Reynolds is hoping for 10.0s out of the car when he is done. Like lots of Drag Week entrants he has plenty of work to do and is hoping to get it done with a few weeks to spare before the event to shake the car down and take car of any hiccups before heading out on the most grueling drag race event known to man in September. Reynolds already scored on victory and that was to actually enter the event, which sold out in under 10-freaking minutes!

Here’s the skinny on the car and the photos Robert sent us. We CANNOT WAIT to see the unadulterated four speed violence this car will produce at tracks all through the heartland of America this September!

I started this car over 5 years ago and lots of stuff is still in mock up stage but I’m trashing to get it done.  I’m trying to get it done 4 to 6 weeks early to cover any unforeseen issues and get some seat time at the local track to dial it in.  We shall see…

Specs:
’67 Barracuda Fast back, All steel except for hood and bumpers.
6 pt bar, frame conn. mini tubbed, relocated springs.  Legal to 10.0.
Indy headed big block Mopar designed for DW by Brian Hafliger at IMM engines in Indio, CA.
Face-plated 833 4 speed with Liberty internals. McLeod Soft-Lok clutch.
Dana 60, 4.10 ratio, Caltracs, MonoLeaf susp. 28″x 11.5 tire.
Goal is 10.0 at 135MPH.

Very Nice! I’m glad I won’t be the only A-body Barracuda there since Ray checked out on us this year. It does look like I will be the slowest though lol.

Wow, very nice. Now THIS is a street car. Well, the faceplated gearbox might be argued by some.

That’s going to be one nice looking and badass street machine.
10.0 is one hell of a goal for a street car. Wish ya the best on that Robert. And the best at Drag Week. Hope ya kick ass.

Man that is one nice looking car. Much as I liked seeing what Gary has on the go, I have to throw in with the Mopars all the way.

Thanks all for the encouraging comments. Lots of works but so much fun! I’ll send BS an update when I get it running.

And I am the lucky bastard that gets to be his crew chief. When you are thumbing through your copy of May 2014 Car Craft magazine check out page 12 and you will find out about the dinosaur balls that we are bringing to the party!! May the force be with you!!

Sorry Robert, I couldn’t help it.
