The LA Run: Listen To This 416ci Small Block Mopar Work Over The Dyno!

The small-block Chevrolet is so commonplace that even though it makes great power and can be built dirt-cheap, people are just about sick of seeing them. Small-block Fords can absolutely romp, as just about every Windsor-powered Mustang can attest to, and aren’t going away anytime soon either. But the small-block Mopar doesn’t get as much love. Yes, there’s the 340 six-barrel engine that, just like the Boss 351 and Chevrolet 302, punched much higher than they should have (and were sorely underrated by the factory) and yes, a 340-powered Duster or Demon would play hell with just about everything on the street, but that’s just one engine of a family that spreads from 1964-2003. The two most likely finds among that group are 318ci and 360ci engines, both being used for damn near everything rear-drive from the late 1960s until their phase-out. The 360ci mill is the real moneymaker…do the work to get it’s cubes above 400ci and you’ll be rewarded with a torquey beast that can rev happily. The 408 Stroker setup might be the best-known, but this 416ci setup on Precision Racing Engine’s dyno is no less nasty. Built for an Australian customer, this 606 horsepower howler would be the perfect fit for a Valiant Charger or ute!
