A Moment Of Zen: Watching The Ford GT Go Through The Water And Splash Test Is Peaceful

A Moment Of Zen: Watching The Ford GT Go Through The Water And Splash Test Is Peaceful

Every car, no matter who makes it, has to undergo a certain battery of tests in order to make sure that the product that comes off of the truck and draws the buyer into the dealership will, in fact, be a worthwhile purchase, a good trade-off for a hell of a lot of money. When it comes to a car like the new Ford GT, a car that only shines in one aspect (hauling copious amounts of derriere) the fit and finish had better fall in line between “high-end bank vault” and “Swiss watch that costs more than your house does”. With prices of the new Ford GT falling somewhere around the $400,000 mark, the car had better ace any and every last possible test that Ford can throw at it, from heat tolerance to cold tolerance, and in the case of what you will see here, it’s ability to handle water. This is Ford’s Water and Splash test, a trench filled with standing water that test out the weatherstripping, the ability of the electronics to tolerate a healthy amount of water, and to check to see if there are any possible faults that the engineers missed along the way that could somehow compromise the vehicle. Let’s be clear: no self-respecting, car-loving owner of one of these vehicles would dare drive it anywhere remotely close to this kind of aquatic level…if a light misting rain happened to appear, the GT would get put up and the Range Rover would get broken out. But it is nice to know that you stand a chance of running from a flash flood of reasonable proportions if the need arises, isn’t it?

The GT made a name for itself in the 1960s, and the nameplate returned to Ford for the 2005 and 2006 models. Since then, the vehicle has truly evolved into a supercar, evident by it’s $100,000+ price tag.
The company has made some changes to the third-generation GT, prioritizing handling and track capabilities in their 2017 model. The result? Not only one of Ford’s most impressive cars ever, but perhaps one of the most innovative cars to ever be released.
