Action Videos: 10 Crazy Engine Swap Videos For Your Friday Viewing Pleasure

January 10th, 2014: Let this be forever known as “The day that Brian let me go hog wild with a montage of videos of cars with crazy engine swaps”. Some of these are oldies but goodies, while others are ones that I’m thinking you’ve never seen before (Put it this way: There are a few that even Brian hadn’t watched yet, and up until this point that guy has already seen every cool YouTube video I’ve thrown at him in the last six months). None of this “Top 11” stuff, just a bunch of cool videos to view in between meetings or while you’re watching the clock on Friday afternoon.

Let me know which ones you love and which ones you hate, and if I missed any awesome ones shoot me a link in the comments!

2JZ swapped Mustang (No, not the ridiculous Fast and Furious Toyko Drift one…)
We’re starting this one off with a “New Edge” Mustang convertible. Unless it’s a Terminator Cobra I really can’t stand this particular era of Mustang, but stuffing a 2JZ motor in the engine bay and feeding it 35 pounds of boost from a 71mm turbo will change my attitude in a hurry. I can’t put into words how much I love this car and the noise that it makes. With over 600 horsepower it’s quick too. Stupid quick.

Before pressing play, turn up your speakers as loud as possible. What’s that? You’re in an office and your boss is within earshot? Look him in the eye, tell him it’s Friday, this is America, and you’ll do as you damn well please. Oh, and you want a raise. Let me know if it works.

Turbo’d Ford small block swapped 1982 Corolla
What’s better than a 1982 Corolla? While you may think the answer is “Anything” or “A 1982 Corolla on fire”, the correct response is a Corolla stuffed to the gills with a turbo’d Ford small block. I was really hoping to see daylight under the front tires when the driver launched the car, but seeing as he was aiming it at what appears to be his (Or the neighbor’s) kids, maybe it’s all for the best that he didn’t go wide open throttle. There’s a few more videos of the car running at the drag strip if you look at his YouTube channel, but they all see to be pre-turbo install. Oh, and “hillbillypornstar2” is quite possibly the best redneck YouTube username I’ve seen yet, second only to the original “hillbillypornstar”.

600cc swapped Geo Metro
Yes, there are a ton of cool Geo Metro swaps out there, almost all of which are faster than this 70 horsepower 600cc swapped Metro. Doesn’t matter, as this video rocks for three reasons: 1) Even with only 70 horsepower, the car now has roughly 20 more ponies than it left the factory with 2) The sound it makes as it (slowly) terrorizes a side street at upwards of 10,000 RPM is fantastic. The Metro would have sold like hotcakes if they all made these kinds of noises 3) The hooligans driving the car spot a police car at the 3:00 mark and have a hilarious exchange while dodging it before eventually being asked to leave.

Turbo Regal powered Geo Metro
Another Geo Metro, this one powered by a 3.8L V6 from a Turbo Regal. The video claims it is an engine from a GNX, but I sincerely doubt that. If I find out that a GNX really lost its heart in order to power a Metro, I’m giving up on being a gearhead.

Anyway, this little monster runs 9.46 at 142 MPH. Nothing else needs to be said.

LQ4 swapped Subaru WRX
Talk about conflicted: I love Chevy V8s and I love WRXs, but I’m not sure how I feel about the two mixed together. There’s something about that boxer rumble and AWD that I just…screw it, the car roasts tires at speed, I’m in.

Yamaha R1 swapped 1970 Austin Mini
I think that bike engine swapped into really small cars may be my new favorite thing. Still light-weight, 10k+ RPMs, and that sound! I never get tired of it. I was really rooting for the Lambo driver to get on it a bit, but then again street racing is bad, right?

5.4L Lightning swapped F100
Many people may not realize this about me as I’m always professing my love for G-bodies, Subarus, and other weird small cars, but I’ve got a real soft spot for Ford trucks as my first vehicle was a ‘94 F150. The supercharged 5.4L in the last generation of Ford Lightning was one heck of a motor, but to be honest that body style wasn’t my favorite as I’ve always preferred a more boxy-looking truck. Looks like someone has answered my prayers in the form of a 5.4 swapped F100. Me likely. There’s a full walkaround of the truck available HERE, but I’d rather embed the video of the truck murdering tires.

Talon TSi swapped Mitsubishi Expo
Do you know how hard it is to find anything interesting to say about a Mitsubishi Expo? I didn’t even know what one was until I hopped on Wikipedia while writing this. Regardless of how lame the Expo was, this one now has the AWD drivetrain and engine of a Eagle Talon TSi swapped into it. Sometimes I wish I was a few years older as I feel like I missed out on the turbo DSM craze. Nowadays it’s a rarity to see a first or second gen Eclipse, Talon, or Laser, let alone a turbo-charged front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive model. Guess that’s because all of the inexpensive ones blew up the motors/rotted away, while the nice ones are sitting in garages waiting to be sold at a premium on eBay in ten years.

Small block Chevy swapped Volvo 245
Remember what I said earlier about bike engine swaps into small cars being my new favorite thing? Scratch that, old Volvo station wagons with a V8 swap is where it’s at. My parents used to have a Volvo 850 T5 back in the 90s and it was a great car for road trips. I doubt it could drift like this though…This one is so good I’m posting two videos. If you’re as nuts about this thing as I am, here’s the build thread: BUILD THREAD

Duramax swapped Grand National
We’re ending this one with one of my favorite swaps, the Duramax “Grand National”, which was actually born a diesel Cutlass. Not going to ruin the moment by trying to write anything witty; just press play and enjoy it. Best played at full volume before leaving work for the day.

Have a good weekend everyone!
