Awesome Historic Racing Video: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Action Circa 1979

While we love finding old drag racing videos, there are other forms of racing that also have killer history caught on film. Take this movie from the 1979 World of Outlaws Knoxville Invasion. Important to note that this is not the Knoxville Nationals, instead this was the very first sprint car race held at Knoxville Raceway outside of the nationals. There’s lots of stuff to look for in this video like some kid named Steve Kinser, big wreckage, and numerous wrecks.

It’s cool to see the “winged warriors” without wings! When the first big wreck occurs and the car is flipping around as these crazy things tend to do, pay attention to how much fuel is spewing out all over the place. It is really a miracle that there wasn’t a huge fire after that one.

You’ll learn to start cringing when you spot a car dead in the water on the high line of a turn. That car won’t be in that position for long as someone is usually right along to plow into the side of it.

This is great stuff and the footage is just raw enough to really set the mood.
