Awful Cars, Awful Ads: The 1984 Cadillac Cimarron

On the heels of reading Rob Kinnan’s great editorial entitled “Crappy Cars” in the January 2010 edition of Hot Rod magazine, we were inspired to act on a crappy car impulse we were having. Awful Cars, Awful Ads will feature some of the biggest junk put forth by automakers and the ads they used to peddle them.

The Cimarron is generally regarded as a low-water mark for the Cadillac brand and for good reason. The poster boy example of everything wrong with “badge engineering,” this tarted up J-body was an overpriced compact car that preyed on the stupidity of the general auto buying public. But hey, according to the ad, it has an “on board computer”!
