Okay, by his own admission, he wasn’t a full 100% throttle on his passes. But anything over quarter-throttle in what basically is a wood plank with a twin-turbocharged Sonny Leonard mill providing power is a lesson in pucker factor. But it’s what Mike Finnegan lives for…the dude is a fan of the ultimate bad idea, speed on water, and for years now, we’ve been watching him get his Placecraft boat, “Game Over”, up to the point where he walls the throttle and gets the fiberglass wonder up and hustling. Today, folks, is that day. Today is the day you get to see the holding system keep the boat in place as the engine winds up, and you get to see the movement as the jet of water is redirected straight rearward and Finnegan hits triple-digit speeds in four seconds. And we’re talking miles per hour, not knots.
But before he proceeds to give a quiet lake community a reason to show up at his house, before one ounce of water is churned up in anger, one last detail needs to be addressed: the exhaust. Specifically, those four outlet pipes that looked cool but were drawing blood any time someone’s arm needed to be anywhere near them. So, a little bit of fabrication, and a bit of action as Finnegan finally cuts the boat loose…something he’s admitted a time or two that he was nervous about!
