The Ford Supervan: A Gurney-Westlake Powered British Utility Truck That We’d Give A Limb To Hammer On

The Ford Supervan: A Gurney-Westlake Powered British Utility Truck That We’d Give A Limb To Hammer On

The Ford Transit has only been on American shores for a few years. It looks like a Ford Fusion that melded with a small work van. In England, however, the Transit has been around for decades. The workaday little vehicles allow carpenters, painters, and other trades people to navigate the tight streets over in the UK. The Transit is one of the important pieces in Ford’s lineup because it is sold in countries all over the world, virtually unchanged from one place to the next. This type of homogenized lineup is what lots of companies are trying to move towards. Take The Chevy Cruze for example, that car is sold in over 100 countries. We need a Coyote powered Transit here in the USA after getting a look at this machine!

Now that you know what a Transit is, you need to know what this transit is all about. Built as an exhibition racer by some enterprising hot rodders and a hand form Ford, the little four banger was tossed in favor of a Gurney-Westlake V8 engine that was mounted in the rear of the van. Also, the suspension was upgraded to a full-boogie road race configuration, complete with wide slick tires. We think the tires may be wider than they are tall!

We love wacky exhibition vehicles and this one really spun our crank!

Thanks to Robert for the tip!

If you think that is good check out “Espace F1” on Youtube. Yes I know it is French but they have seven seats in Europe

Cool in concept but a total failure in application. Not quick, not fast, lousy in the corners and use less as a van.
