We love old car ads around here so when we saw a compilation video made up of the entire 1973 AMC television ad catalog, we had to share it with all of you out there in readerland. While on a long ride this weekend we had a fairly long discussion about these old ads compared to today’s automotive television campaigns. The old ads told stories and talked about the actual vehicle being sold, unlike the majority of today’s car ads that are selling the “experience” or the way you’ll feel to own a particular car. Not shockingly, we like the old approach better. 

The one lone exception may be truck advertising. Those ads still play to tech notes like towing capacity, payload capacity, horsepower, and other tangible stuff that is related to the actual vehicle. Plus, some of them feature bitchin action shots. Most that would surely result in warranty work!

Some of these AMC ads are cool, some are lame, but they all have a unique kitch that is simply not present anymore.
