Chad and I have been attending the Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Kentucky for several years now. We have always worked hard to let the world know that the event is exceptionally cool because it serves as a big melting pot for the hot rod culture. From street rods to low riders to fuel dragsters, it is all there at Beech Bend Raceway. Our pals at Holley managed to do a better job at it in this cool five minute video than we have in years. Newsflash: They’re smarter than us.

In this short film, hot rodder Jim McCrady is the center of attention. Well, him and his neato 1941 Ford. The car is like lots of our projects and yours. It is a constantly evolving and changing piece that has had multiple engines in it and will probably never be totally “done”. That seems to be OK with Jim and it is OK with us, too. It says a lot to us when a guy plans out his summer and vacation time from work around certain events as Jim does with the NHRR. That is special time that can be spent doing a myriad of different things, so when someone like Jim earmarks time for this one every year, that carries a lot of weight.

Jim’s car may not be something you would build for yourself but it is his and it is built with his blood, sweat and tears. We dig the cool story about him finding the car at a farm and talking the old man who owned it into selling the Ford to him. Stuff like that means more to us than shiny chrome and the latest trend. Cool personal stories make this hobby what it is, Jim’s included.
