Well this is a new one on us! The video you’ll see after the jump is from the 2010 Redlands Air Show and it featured the truly cool Rocketeer nostalgia alky funny car racing a high performance stunt bi-plane as one of the featured events of the weekend. We’ve heard of the car versus plane race before, heck, we remember when Big Daddy raced an F-16 in the pages of Hot Rod but the Funny Car angle is a new one on us. 

The good news is that you can go see it in person as the 2011 Redlands Air Show is coming up on October 8th and the Rocketeer will be in attendance again to battle the bi-plane. This baby is a cheap take, too. Adults are only $5,00 to get in and kids under 12 are free.

The runway is like a naked drag strip. No walls, no signs, nothing to obstruct the view of the car heading down course. Traction seems to have been a little iffy for the car, but we think he still out ran the plane!
