Shifter kart racing is pretty serious business. These little demon like mechanical creatures own the track records at many road courses, are blindingly fast, and can corner like no one’s business. They are also not ideal vehicles to crash in because as the driver, you are pretty much guaranteed to be launched out and eating pavement. That’s what happened to this guy while running at Dayonta International Speedway.

The guy in question is not racing a shifter kart. He is in one of the slower models. The shifter karts actually actually started the mess that this unlucky dude was scooped up into. As you’ll see, the shifter karts come off of the oval at about 100mph while the slower karts are doing about 90mph. As the shifters pass the slower karts and move into a left hand turn, something happens and a few of them spin, creating a couple of road blocks right in the middle of the course.

With drivers checking up and darting this way and that, the dude wearing the camera in this video (and there are a couple guys wearing cameras) locks the brakes and slides sideways into one of the other dead karts. The impact is big and the driver is launched out and, well, you’ll see how much fun that is from his helmet cam, and the cam of another racer that was mounted facing rearward.

Karting is fast, cool, and relatively cheap. Wrecking always sucks.
