A Crate Motor, A Dyno Cell, And Three Men At The Control Panel: Can One Bolt-On Mod Net 50 Horsepower? Engine Masters Will Find Out!

A Crate Motor, A Dyno Cell, And Three Men At The Control Panel: Can One Bolt-On Mod Net 50 Horsepower? Engine Masters Will Find Out!

As part of the ever-growing footprint of The Enthusiast Network, a new YouTube show has appeared, and it is aimed squarely at the guy who is buried under the hood. Engine Masters, named after Hot Rod’s challenge program where engine builders squared off against each other and the dyno, has appeared and Episode #1 has just dropped. In conjunction with Westech Performance Group, Engine Masters is meant to showcase any and everything engine tech related. We get Steve Brulé from Westech, Steve Dulcich (known for his work with the Engine Masters program, his contributions to Roadkill’s “Crop Duster” project, and his unholy amount of knowledge of anything Mopar), and David Freiburger, who is pretty much everywhere these days.

For the first episode, BluePrint Engines offers up one of their new GM 400 small blocks to the dyno. In raw form, BluePrint claims that the engine should crank out 508 horsepower and 473 ft/lbs of torque. Not bad straight out of the catalog…if the numbers are correct. But you might be a little more interested not in the out-of-the-box performance, but that claim about one part netting fifty horsepower…we will say the claim is legit, but you’ll have to click play and see for yourself what the part is.

Dang you DF! Now I want a tunnel ram for my 327 again. I keep deciding against it because of the thought of buying and tuning two carbs.

Like they do on drag week “street legal” cars, once again stretch the truth with a one add on concept with the 8v tunnel ram. In my book that’s two BIG changes.

Well if you want to argue about it, you could also argue that the engine didn’t make the advertised power without a jet change, so therefore the claimed power is a lie.

That would be bullspit, but you could say it
