While us media guys like to get our undies in a bunch about Coyote motors and LS mills, the fact of the matter is that there are millions upon millions of hot rodders who still use traditional “old school” motors and make huge power with them. That’s why it should come as no surprise that a unit like Ford Racing would debut a bad ass new crate engine that isn’t from the modular platform.
The motor is a 460ci small block based off of the new Ford Racing big bore Boss blocks. These blocks are incredibly strong, cast from the same type of battle tested iron used in the manufacture of the company’s diesel engine blocks. They feature meaty decks that can also be had in a raised deck style block in two heights. In the case of the 460ci engine, it uses the Boss big bore block with the 9.5″ deck height. The blocks also have really thick cylinder walls and can be bored until your little heart is content. 460 is the safest recommended displacement, but c’amon…who likes to play it safe around here?
The internals of the Z460 are all top line stuff with a Scat forged crank swinging 4.25″, Mahle pistons fill the holes that measure a mondo 4.15″ across and create a 10.1:1 compression ratio, which pump gas will love, Clevite bearings keep stuff from locking up tight, and Ford Racing Z304 heads top the whole deal to give you a rough idea of what this thing is all about.
In the dyno video below the engine is run with an 850CFM Holley and an Edelbrock Super Victor intake manifold. It produces 575hp and 575 lb/ft of torque. The pulls are concluded at less than 6,000 RPM. In our eyes, there is some room for major league power here. Shoot, adding the nitrous hose in an afternoon is a recipe for big time fun! Then there is the whole side of this thing that is just plain fun for the owner. Sure, it is a Ford small block. When people ask how big you can tell them whatever you want. Hell, if you tell them 460ci they’ll probably walk away telling you that you’re a dummy because it is impossible to get 460ci out of a typical small block Ford. Then you can do a burnout for three blocks and show them how dumb you are with your middle finger up and their jaws on the ground.
The best part? You get a two year warranty with the thing. We’re seeing them on sale for about $9,300 shipped out the door. You can get them front or rear sump oil pan, too. Depending on what you are trying to jam it in.
WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW AND LISTEN TO THIS THING SWEETLY SING OUT 575HP AND 575 LB/FT!
Nice! I actually saw this yesterday on Fox News of all places. lol
I want this!
Why would I I want to plumb all that in one bolt and a wire its added to any in five min or less with net key and matching wireless button.
