Building Blocks: Watch The Hagerty Cadillac 365 Short Block Come Together Nicely In This Video

This build is going as smooth as the Cadillac it will power is going to ride down the boulevard. Yesterday we showed you the block being painted and the crank being installed among a few other details, but today the fun job of plugging the rest of the short block together takes center stage. Davin has such an informal and easy way about him it’s cool to watch. He’s literally someone that would be fun to hang out with at the shop and BS with over all manner of bench racing topics.

This is a great video because we get to see the heads being machined, the pistons being installed, get a lesson on piston ring compressors, watch the oil pump get rebuilt, and really see this classic lump of iron take shape. The oil pump rebuilding is amazing because that pump was actually used to do two things. Pump oil and crate vacuum for…the windshield wipers! Yea, we’re not kidding.

The care taken in prepping the heads for paint, in making sure the mechanical process is followed to a T while installing the pistons, and rebuilding the oil pump make this video really fun. The devil is in the details of every engine build, no matter if it is a Briggs and Stratton or a Cadillac. Davin gets that across in a loose and fun way.

This thing is going to purr like a kitten when done!
