This is one of the coolest drag racing videos we’ve ever found. It features Mickey Thompson and Danny “On the Gas” Ongais during the 1969 season, racing the funny car that Thompson owned. The SOHC Ford “cammer” motor is running a full load of nitro and Ongais is wheeling the hell out of the flopper. It even tries to throw him at the top end of the track

Thompson’s fiery nature comes out at one point as he goes on a tirade on the starting line, chewing out someone who appears to be the starter and virtually anyone else who he can pin down.

Not that you can miss it, but pay close attention to the background sound bed. It’s the truly awesome sound of the SOHC motor cackling away on a full load of nitro. The sound is completely different from a modern fueler, and when we say different, we mean way frigging better.
