Classic YouTube: Mud Bog Drags At The Kingdome In Seattle In 1988

At a tick over 660 feet in diameter, the Kingdome in Seattle had plenty of room for activities. Usually, by 1988, those activities centered on Seattle Mariners baseball, Seattle Sounders soccer, Seattle Seahawks football and the occasional concert, such as the Monsters of Rock tour that saw Scorpions singer Klaus Meine catch a camera to the throat during their set in 1988. After the ceiling started to fall apart in 1994, and after the Mariners were sold to the guy who ran Nintendo, plans came quickly to replace the arena and almost 24 years to the day from when it opened, the arena was imploded in 2000, replaced with two stadiums. I never made it to the Kingdome as a kid…had zero interest in baseball or football, so there really wasn’t a good reason to go. If they still had events like this bit, which feels like part of a Monster Jam event, then maybe I’d have gone. With just enough room for a dirt drag lane and a shutdown area that might be enough (you’ll see the Jeep CJ-7 that pushes that limit early on), this footage from back in my kindergarten year should make your day just a little bit brighter. Enjoy!
