How To Build A Screw Tank, Part Two: Gearboxes And Chassis Creation!

Looking at Colin Furze, and knowing why the Internet knows this man’s name, you would think that it would be a bad idea to ask him to create a tank, right? Yeah. Don’t sweat that, he was on board before you agreed to even ask him to make the thing. The dude’s built his own hoverbike and a hot-rodded old-folks scooter…what’s a tank but another excuse to put on some good music and to make a lot of noise and metal shavings within his shop? Health and safety officials have to get cold chills down their spine when his name pops up, for sure.

As part of a video game promotion, Furze is building a screw-driven tank with a Honda engine for propulsion. He already build the screw drive cylinders, now he has to prepare a chassis and the drive boxes that will turn the cylinders. There is no off-the-shelf parts for this kind of machine…it’s all in-house made with bearings and sprockets being the only farmed-out units going onto the contraption. At this point, he could simply get the hydraulic drives working and have one of the baddest adult toys on the planet, perfect for tearing though bogs and fields. The question remains, however: will the tank remain a peaceful unit, or will he outfit this puppy for war?
