Incredible Wreckage Video: A Trans-Am Camaro Hits the Tire Wall at More than 150mph and Launches Out of Track

Gunter Schaldach is probably still sore today, but that’s small potatoes compared to what could have happened to him after suffering one of the more horrifying road racing crashed of the last decade this passed weekend. Schaldach’s Camaro suffered a rear brake failure when approaching a lower speed right hander at Road America. The chain of events that followed are nothing short of nightmarish.

From what we have read Schaldach’s wreck was amplified due to the fact that the radiator, after the initial impact with the completely innocent Mazda RX8, pinned the throttle wide open on the car, causing it to rocket through the gravel run off and smash into the tire wall, which then launched the car FAR outside the confines of the track and down a hill.

The replay angles are wild, especially around 1:50 when really see what kind of heigt and distance this guy covered. It is beyond amazing that he climbed out and walked through the wilderness back to the track under his own power.

Press play and pucker up!

I WAS WORKING RESCUE AT ROAD AMERICA THAT WEEKEND AT TURN FIVE. THE CRASH HAPPENED AT TURN ONE. WHAT YOU PROBALY DONT KNOW IS THAT THE DRIVER OF THE RX8 HAD TO BE EXTRECATED AND WAS AIR LIFTED OFF TRACK. UNFORTUNATELY THIS HAD TO HAPPEN.
