Independence Chevelle: Getting Started On Something Resembling Safety For The Build!

Independence Chevelle: Getting Started On Something Resembling Safety For The Build!

Okay…we’ve established that the 1972 Chevrolet Malibu that Vice Grip Garage has started calling “Independence” was sketchy…no, it was “Holy f*ck, man, are you serious?!” sketchy. You know the difference between a car worth saving and a car that just ain’t worth it? If you do, you might want to let Derek know, because while there is some Chevelle left to save, this one was pretty far gone there, guy. And now, with his eye on bringing the car to a Cleetus and Cars event this year, he’s gonna lob a ton of power into this car and let it go buck-wild on a skid pad. And normally, we’d be encouraging that, but…this is a patched-frame A-body that has had quite a bit of natural lightening going on. Um…uh-huh, okaaaaay…

Well, let it be said that there hasn’t been at least a modicum of safety given to the Chevelle because today is the day that bars start appearing in the program. This bar serves at least two purposes: it gives a place to mount the harness that will need to hold Derek in the seat once he starts cranking the Malibu around, and it should help hold the body to the frame. And if you haven’t been following along with the project, that’s a genuine concern on this car. Maybe I should shoot him a message and make sure he remembers to fix a body mount or two. No zip-tie is going to do the trick…

Swiss cheese has less holes in it than this Chevelle, it’s a death trap in the making and if I was Cletus, I wouldn’t allow it on his track for liability issues.

At least he knows what he has. No surprises, unlike most over priced so called “cherry” internet cars out there.
