It Is A Crazy Boat/Motorhome/Van From The 1980’s. It’s The Boaterhome!!

It Is A Crazy Boat/Motorhome/Van From The 1980’s. It’s The Boaterhome!!

(Words by Scott Liggett) We first came across one of these Boaterhomes back in 2010 in an Ebay ad sent to us by a BangShift member. We thought it was nuts back then, but the ad really didn’t show how crazy these things are. At first glance, they appear to be some kind of giant Ford van limo thing we would see on “Life Styles Of The Rich & Famous” TV show back in the ’80’s. Back when Ultra Limousines were building 40 foot long limos with hot tubs and helicopter landing pads.

While watching this video, it’s almost impossible to see where the van ends and the boat begins as it backs down the ramp. It’s impossible not to stare at this contraption as it is about to launch the boat off its back. The bow of the boat tucks neatly into the back of the van. Then the boat engine starts up, and it boat glides into the water leaving what appears to be a boat trailer welded to the back of a conversion van. The boat itself is crazy looking. It’s billed as a house boat, but it appears more like some kind of space ship from a 1980’s TV show. The design is definitely more about style than function as it doesn’t appear to be very good at being a motorhome or a houseboat. But, we don’t care about function when the style is as cool as this thing is. We’d be rocking in at the lake any day!

The video below gives us a tour of this by the owner of the boaterhome. It’s a family heirloom and his father was the original owner of the rig. The owner then shows he had recently bought another one!!

Even after 30 plus years, it so outrageous that we bet it still draws crowds of confused on lookers everywhere it goes.

Owner must have a slip or the painted boat isnt in operation anymore. I drive by the owners house probably once a month and see the van all the time bit never the boat.
