While Bonneville gets the most fame and attention, and is the most iconic land speed racing location on earth, the dry lake bed at El Mirage is home to land speed racing and arguably the toughest spot to set a record. Winning an SCTA championship requires really good performances on the silty dirt lakebed, and is an accomplishment that any veteran land speed racer really respects. Setting a record on the salt at Bonneville is really tough, but El Mirage is tougher yet.
